Chief of Police

Chief David Golt serving as the 8th Chief of Police for Miami Shores Village, oversees a team of 42 sworn personnel and 10 civilian staff members, responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the community.

Chief Golt's educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in both Criminology and Government from Florida State University and he holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Barry University. Chief Golt began his law enforcement journey with the Pembroke Pines Police Department in 1984. During his tenure there, he held various positions, including Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and Deputy Chief.

Chief Golt has demonstrated a commitment to professional development throughout his career. He has completed several prestigious programs, including the 214th Session of the FBI National Academy, The Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police, and the FBI LEEDA Seminar. Additionally, he holds numerous other training certifications, showcasing his dedication to staying current with industry best practices.

In 2015, Chief Golt joined the Miami Shores Police Department as a Lieutenant. In this role, he led the Detective Bureau, played a pivotal role in updating and revising department policies, managed special projects, and served as the department's Public Information Officer. Chief Golt also volunteered for and was designated as the LGBTQ Liaison, demonstrating his commitment to fostering inclusivity and community engagement.

Chief Golt actively participates in professional organizations, including the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, where he chairs the "By-Laws" Committee. He is also a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Professional Compliance

Captain Christine Herbert began her long and diverse career within the Miami Shores Police Department in March of 1995 as a dispatcher, later attending and graduating the police academy in 1997, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2000.  Over the course of her 29 years of service, she has held various positions within the department, showcasing her versatility and dedication, to include: Dispatcher, Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Communications Supervisor, Investigator, and Acting Lieutenant.  In early 2022, she was promoted to the rank of Captain and assumed leadership of the Operations division.
 
Captain Herbert holds an Associate of Arts degree and successfully completed the Southern Police Institute’s 58th Command Officer's Development Course, in addition to numerous other trainings and certifications.  She is an active member of the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, the Florida Police Chiefs Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
 
Captain Christine Herbert's career within the Miami Shores Police Department has been marked by her unwavering dedication, diverse experience, and continuous pursuit of professional growth. Her leadership as Captain of the Professional Compliance division positions her to make a significant impact on the department and the community it serves.


Investigations & Operations

Captain Joseph Keeley is an experienced member of the Miami Shores Police Department, with 26 years of service. He began his career by graduating from the Broward Institute of Public Safety in 1995. Throughout his tenure, Captain Keeley has received recognition for his exceptional performance. In 1998 when he earned the Lifesaver Award for his courageous rescue of a woman trapped in a burning vehicle. Captain Keeley spent the majority of his early career as a patrolman, serving for nine years before briefly transitioning to the Detective Bureau in 2003. He also worked as a Field Training Officer, providing guidance and instruction to new officers, until his promotion to the rank of Sergeant in 2005.
 
Since 2006, Captain Keeley has held the position of Field Training Sergeant, where he played a significant role in improving the department's training program. He rewrote the Police Training Manual to align with current standards and best practices. In 2009, he furthered his professional development by attending the Southern Police Institute Command Officer Development Course, where he graduated fourth in his class.
 
Captain Keeley was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2022. He oversees the Operations division and investigations and training divisions within the Miami Shores Police Department.

Administration

Captain Paul Cazzola's career with the Miami Shores Police Department is characterized by diverse roles and steady career advancement. In January 2007, Captain Cazzola joined the department as a Patrolman and served in that position until 2009. During this time, he gained valuable experience in police operations and maintaining public safety. Captain Cazzola was promoted to the rank of Detective in 2009 and spent nearly a decade developing and honing his investigative skills and abilities. In July 2018, Captain Paul Cazzola was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He transitioned to the Patrol Division and assumed the role of Shift Supervisor. In this role, he oversaw the activities of the patrol officers assigned to his shift.
 
Captain Paul Cazzola served as a Patrol Supervisor until September 2022. Following a successful tenure, Captain Cazzola returned to the Investigations Division as Detective Sergeant. In this role, Captain Cazzola was able to leverage his investigative expertise and provide leadership to a team of Detectives.
 
On March 1, 2023, Captain Paul Cazzola's leadership qualities and diverse skillset led to his appointment as Captain. In this role, he oversees Information Technology, Grants, Facilities Management, and Mobile Patrol for MSPD.
 
Captain Paul Cazzola is a proponent of positive mental and physical wellness pursuits and believes that these pursuits offer the bedrock for a balanced life. As a United States Marine Corps veteran, Captain Cazzola remains committed to his fellow officers and the citizens we serve.

Support Services

Commander LeeAnn Jonchuck has had a diverse and accomplished career within the Miami Shores Police Department. She began her journey in 2001 as a Telecommunications Officer and later attended the Miami Dade College Institute of Public Safety to become a sworn law enforcement officer.
 
 After joining the ranks as an officer, Commander Jonchuck was assigned to road patrol and made history as the first female K9 handler in the Miami Shores Police Department.

In 2015, Commander Jonchuck assumed the responsibility of managing Evidence for the Miami Shores Police Department. She took systematic steps to standardize the division and bring it in line with industry standards. In 2017, Commander Jonchuck achieved another significant milestone in her career by becoming the first School Resource Officer for the Miami Shores Police Department.
 
 Prior to her recent promotion, Commander Jonchuck worked as a detective within the agency's Criminal Investigations Division.
 
In March 2023, Commander Jonchuck's dedication and hard work were recognized, and she was promoted to the rank of Commander. In her current role, she oversees various critical areas within the agency, including records management, evidence management, policy development, accreditation, and the agency's emotional support dog program.
