Effective July 1, 2021, Florida Senate Bill 60 (CS/SB 60) prohibits code enforcement officers from initiating investigations based on anonymous complaints. Under this state law, any person submitting a code complaint must provide their name and address before the Village can take enforcement action. The only exception to this rule is when the alleged violation presents an imminent threat to public health, safety, welfare, or may result in the immediate destruction of habitat or sensitive environmental resources.
What This Means for You: If you wish to report a suspected code violation, you must include your full name and address. Complaints submitted anonymously cannot be investigated unless they involve urgent public safety or environmental risks. This requirement applies to both residential and commercial complaints.
This change in procedure was enacted by the Florida Legislature to ensure transparency and accountability in local code enforcement practices. We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain the safety and appearance of our community. For more information or to file a complaint, please contact the Village Neighborhood Services Department at 305.759.2207 Option 2 or email us at neighborhoodservices@msvfl.gov.
