Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, trims and removes trees for beautification and safety purposes; may perform others duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:      

  • Maintains Village trees by pruning, and removing dead and damaged limbs and trees;
  • Performs brush chipping, root pruning, and stump grinding;
  • Operates and maintains tree-trimming equipment, aerial lift trucks, chain saws, pole and root pruners, stump grinder, and brush chipper;
  • Performs traffic control to ensure the safety of cars, pedestrians, and tree crews in traffic areas;
  • Performs roadside clean-up of trash and weeds; 
  • Plants, fertilizes and waters trees;
  • Responds to emergency calls regarding fallen trees or limbs; and
  • Performs other assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.;
  • Two to three years of experience in tree maintenance;
  • Or any equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
  • Valid State of Florida Class “B” C.D.L. Driver’s License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;
  • Ability to act as a representative of the Village to the public;
  • Knowledgeable in the use of fertilizers and pesticides;
  • Knowledge of arboriculture practices and techniques;
  • Knowledge to safely operate a bucket ruck, stump grinder, street sweeper, power equipment, and tools;
  • Accurately follow oral and written instructions; and
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Must have knowledge of ANSI A300 pruning standards for proper tree, shrub, and woody plant management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work requires considerable physical effort in the handling of materials up to 100 pounds and/or continual climbing, standing, or walking for prolonged periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:      

Work environment involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions typical of such places as streets, and parks, e.g., working around chemicals, equipment, or machinery, etc.; and may require working in adverse weather conditions.  Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push articles weighing up to 100 lbs.
