Salary range: $17.82 - $28.51 DOQ/E

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Library Director, performs routine clerical duties within the library by providing support to the librarians; may perform other duties as assigned.   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:      

  • Provides direct assistance to patrons by providing basic information regarding the use of library materials, equipment and services;

  • May assist with handling overdue accounts regarding late or lost materials;

  • Provides on-demand technical support;

  • Provides support during programming;

  • Orders and processes new materials and equipment;

  • Stocks shelves, makes copies for patrons, and mends damaged books/AV;

  • Processes and maintains periodical files as well as patron application cards;

  • Checks books or equipment in and out using the computer system, and collects fines;

  • Patrols library to ensure rules are followed;

  • Oversees the Digital Media and Reference room, as well as the section hosting computers available for adults, including adult audiobooks and DVDs;

  • Assists with multi-media;

  • Cleans discs using a dedicated disc repair machine, as well as; Manages printing services for patrons;

  • Performs typing and key-boarding duties, and assists with the use of the online catalog system;

  • Counts library funds at the end of the day before they are sent to a senior manager for a final count;

  • Oversees Bookshop, Reference Room, and Digital Media;

  • Assists in sorting donations;

  • Registers new patrons and issues library cards, handles inter-library loan requests; and Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

  • No experience is required;

  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and

  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;

  • Acts as a representative of the Village to the Public;

  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret oral and written instructions;

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and solve practical problems;

  • Ability to deal appropriately and effectively with the public;

  • Must be proficient at communicating via telephone, mail and email; and

  • Ability to enact strong organizational skills and effective time management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work requires the physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:      

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomfort which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations.
