Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, operates refuse truck, and performs manual labor in the collection and disposal of refuse and trash; may perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operates solid waste trucks, and assists with the collection of refuse from residential, businesses, and other facilities;
- Empties trash and garbage cans into sanitation truck;
- Uses pitch forks, shovels, and similar hand tools to pick up general refuse and trash from curbside and other areas;
- Rakes alleys, pulling garbage out for the loader to get on the truck;
- Cleans sanitation trucks and dumpsters;
- Empties recyclables into trucks; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.;
- One year of experience in solid waste collection and disposal;
- Or any equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid State of Florida Class “B” C.D.L. Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;
- Ability to act as a representative of the Village to the public;
- Safely work around heavy equipment and machinery;
- Accurately follow oral and written instructions; and
- Ability to effectively communicate with others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires considerable physical effort in the handling of materials up to 100 pounds and/or continual climbing, standing, or walking for prolonged periods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions typical of such places as streets, and parks, e.g., working around chemicals, equipment, or machinery, etc.; and may require working in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push articles weighing up to 100 lbs.
