Job Title: Solid Waste Collector

Salary range: $16.50 - $26.40 DOQ/E

Hours: Full-Time

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, performs manual labor in the collection and disposal of refuse and trash; may perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Functions as a collector on a refuse collection crew;
  • Walks to the garbage disposal areas of commercial and residential premises;
  • Empties trash and garbage cans into sanitation truck;
  • Uses pitch forks, shovels and similar hand tools to pick up general refuse and trash from curbside and other areas;
  • Cleans sanitation truck and dumpsters; 
  • Empties recyclables into truck; and
  • Performs other assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.;
  • One year of experience in solid waste collection and disposal; and
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;
  • Act as a representative of the Village to the public;
  • Safely work around heavy equipment and machinery;
  • Accurately follow oral and written instructions; and
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work requires considerable physical effort in the handling of materials up to 100 pounds and/or continual climbing, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:     

Work environment involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions typical of such places as garages, and shops, e.g., working around chemicals, equipment, or machinery, etc.; and may require working in adverse weather conditions.
