Job Title: Solid Waste Collector
Salary range: $16.50 - $26.40 DOQ/E

Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, performs manual labor in the collection and disposal of refuse and trash; may perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Functions as a collector on a refuse collection crew;
- Walks to the garbage disposal areas of commercial and residential premises;
- Empties trash and garbage cans into sanitation truck;
- Uses pitch forks, shovels and similar hand tools to pick up general refuse and trash from curbside and other areas;
- Cleans sanitation truck and dumpsters;
- Empties recyclables into truck; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.;
- One year of experience in solid waste collection and disposal; and
- Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;
- Act as a representative of the Village to the public;
- Safely work around heavy equipment and machinery;
- Accurately follow oral and written instructions; and
- Ability to effectively communicate with others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires considerable physical effort in the handling of materials up to 100 pounds and/or continual climbing, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions typical of such places as garages, and shops, e.g., working around chemicals, equipment, or machinery, etc.; and may require working in adverse weather conditions.
