Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Manager, performs administrative and supervisory work coordinating all aquatic activities and facilities for the Village; may perform other duties as assigned.   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:      

  • Supervises and trains lifeguards, concession workers, cashiers, and maintenance staff; creates work schedule and ensures adequate coverage for lifeguarding, swim lessons, and special events;
  • Coordinates training sessions and ensures certifications are maintained in rescue operations, first aid, and CPR; teaches annual lifeguarding class and recertifies staff;
  • Supervises and trains pool lifeguards on policies, procedures and equipment;
  • Coordinates staff schedules to ensure adequate pool coverage, and maintains time records for pool staff;
  • Supervises and trains cashiers and concession staff on policies, procedures, and equipment;
  • Ensures water chemistry is balanced and within local, state, and federal regulations for the daily operation of the pools; maintains the pump room;
  • Ensures that proper maintenance is performed on pool systems, vehicles, rescue and resuscitation equipment, and pool testing equipment;
  • Recommends equipment purchases, orders and maintains records on supplies and equipment;
  • Assists with swim meets, tournaments, and other special events;
  • Survey patrons and evaluate programs to determine public needs and how to increase program efficiency and effectiveness; receives patron complaints and suggestions and responds appropriately;
  • Manages annual budget, and makes recommendations regarding revenue and expenditures;
  • Oversees and recommends new programs and/or changes to existing ones;
  • Ensures staff are current on mandatory certification and fitness testing; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.;
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in an aquatics program; 2 years’ experience supervising and training employees;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience;
  • Must have Aquatics Facility Operator License;
  • Must be LGI, First Aid/CPR Certification, Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certified;
  • Water Safety Instructor Trainer preferred, and;
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards;
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools;
  • Acts as a representative of the Village to the Public;
  • Working knowledge of department practices and procedures;
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff;
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and solve practical problems;
  • Ability to deal appropriately and effectively with the public;
  • Ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively in both oral and written form;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; and
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends;

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work requires the physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:      

Work environment involves regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.  The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals; and duties associated with this position require the employee to regularly work outside.
