JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, performs administrative and supervisory work coordinating athletics, special events and other programs; Responsibilities include developing, organizing, coordinating and implementing programs and special events, including the administration of departmental programs and projects. May perform others duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:      

  • Manages and coordinates facility operations, such as maintenance, work orders, project management, renovations, capital improvements, signage, partnership agreements, rental contracts, insurance requirements, collection of program fees, developing operational and emergency management plans, etc.
  • Oversees intramural sports, subcontracted sports, athletic field rentals, and assists in after-school care program and summer camp program;
  • Coordinates scheduling of facilities and evaluates programs;
  • Conducts meetings with user groups on current and future program needs;
  • Recommends new programs or changes to existing ones; 
  • Recommends equipment purchases, orders and maintains records on supplies and equipment;
  • Schedules games, tournaments and various program activities;
  • Plans, assigns, coordinates, supervises, and reviews the work of assigned personnel: prioritizes and assigns work; creates and distributes staff schedules; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; and selects, hires and trains staff;
  • Represents facility and/or department at various meetings.
  • Performs basic administrative duties including written reports, memorandums, letters, and electronic correspondence, interaction with vendors, and communication through telephone and meetings.
  • Provide exceptional customer assistance, problem solving, and/or complaints by all forms of communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation or leisure services or equivalent training, education and/or experience
  • One to two years of experience working in a municipal recreation department;
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six months of employment;
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;
  • Working knowledge of department practices and procedures;
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff;
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing; and
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Skill in the use of standard office computer equipment and software applications; ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact with the public in a positive and effective manner; to work well in teams; be self-motivated, and receive and execute direction.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:      

  • Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations; and duties associated with this position require the employee to regularly work outside.
