Job Description:


Under the general supervision of the Library Director, performs routine clerical duties within the library by providing support to the librarians; may perform other duties as assigned.   


  • Provides direct assistance to patrons by providing basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment and services;
  • Orders and processes new materials and equipment;
  • Helps maintain a neat and orderly library environment
  • Stock shelves, fax or make copies for patrons, or library staff and mends damaged books;  
  • Processes and maintains periodical files;
  • Check books or equipment in and out using computer system, and collects fines;
  • Patrols library to ensure rules are followed;
  • Provides assistance with multi-media;
  • Creates and assists with children and adult programming under guidance of the Library Director and/or Adult or Youth Services Librarian
  • Performs typing and key boarding duties, and assists staff with the use of the on-line catalog system;
  • Register new patrons and issues library cards, handles inter-library loan requests;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills:


  • Working knowledge of Village policies and procedures;
  • Act as a representative of the Village to the Public;
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and solve practical problems; and
  • Ability to deal appropriately and effectively with the public.



  • High school diploma or G.E.D.;
  • One year of experience in a public library setting;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
  • Valid state of Florida Driver’s License.



Work requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.



Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting and training room, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations.
