Bayfront Park Seawall Elevation

Project Information

Miami Shores Village is constructing a new, higher seawall along the waterfront at Bayfront Park to improve shoreline protection and strengthen the park’s long-term resilience to high tides, storm surge, and future sea-level conditions.

Bayfront Park is an approximately 900-foot-long public waterfront park along Biscayne Bay. The existing seawall is low-lying and has deteriorated over time. During high tides and storm events, water can overtop the seawall, flooding portions of the park and contributing to saltwater intrusion into the Village’s stormwater system. The new seawall is being constructed in front of the existing seawall, which will remain in place. The project also includes shoreline enhancements, inlcuding "living sewall" panels that support and promote marine life, as well as the restoration of park areas affected by construction.

The Project is funded through a combination of Federal, State, County, and Local sources, including:

  • Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP)
  • American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds
  • People’s Transportation Plan / Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) funds
  • Miami Shores Village Stormwater funds

Project Construction

Construction includes 890 linear feet of seawall replacement along Bayfront Park, generally extending along North Bayshore Drive between NE 94th Street and NE 96th Street.

Work includes:

  • Construction of a seawall approx. 2 ft higher than the existing seawall to improve protection from high tides and future sea-level rise
  • Demo of the existing sidewalk and construction of a new sidewalk at the new seawall level.
  • Restoration of park areas disturbed during construction

Construction activity will occur primarily within Bayfront Park and along the waterfront. The park will remain closed for the duration of the project. Completion is expected in Winter 2026.
